Zoom Mtg. 25 April 2020 – Designing a Sliding Seat Rowing Boat – John Perry

John Perry gave a presentation about the design process for a 4.57m (15 foot) sliding seat rowing boat, this presentation being followed by video demonstrating the design features.  The construction and use of the boat will be the subject of a following meeting.

This boat is designed for either one rower plus a passenger or a solo rower which means a significant variation in displacement and requires two rowing positions. The outriggers that support the gates (rowlocks) are designed to easily fold in and out for coming alongside quays or locksides. There is provision to carry camping equipment for multi-day river trips.  The design also includes arrangments for easy loading onto a car roof rack and wheels that clip onto the topsides for portaging.
