March Zoom Meeting
12 March @ 19:30 - 20:30
For our March meeting I propose to talk about the instrumented hydrofoil that I have made for our display at the RYA Dinghy Show at the end of February. For our Zoom meeting I can explain how it works and how easy it is these days for a non-electronics specialist such as myself to put together a data logging system to take experimental measurements and record data electronically. I can also describe the various experiments I have in mind for this equipment, or maybe improved versions of this equipment – these include:
- Investigating some possible ways to control the flying height of a Tee style hydrofoil, perhaps even without needing any electronics or powered actuators or even ‘wands’.
- Quantifying stuctural stress in hydrofoils
- comparing various styles of hydrofoil – e.g. ]T’ shape, ‘V’ shape, ‘L” shape ‘J’ shape etc.
- Quantifying the hydrodynamic advantage that an underhull rudder may have over a transom mounted rudder.

The meeting ID is 253 674 0617 and the passcode is ayrs but I don’t think you will need that information if you log on through the link above.
This will be our final Zoom meeting for winter 2022. We will then break off for the summer. At our January Zoom meeting I asked those present whether they would like these meetings to continue next autumn and the response seemed to be a ‘yes’. I do wonder if Saturday evening is the best day of the week for this, let me know if you have any thoughts on that, also let me know if you have ideas for subjects/speakers for future meetings – email email@example.com
