AYRS Zoom Meeting

We are planing this meeting to be with Andrew Bedwell who is preparing to gain the record for crossing the Atlantic in the smallest ever boat and to support the Cancer Research UK charity in doing so. You can find more about Andrew’s BigC Atalantic Challenge at his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/p/Big-C-Atlantic-Challenge-100082612007911/?locale=en_GB     I saw the boat at the Southampton Boat Show and in my view it looks to be a totally safe boat, as long as you keep away from lee shores, but it is expected to be rather slow. I would think it is horrendously uncomfortable but that may be mitigated by the thorough acclimatization to the on board conditions that Andrew is currently undergoing, sailing in the Autumnal gales off the coast of Cumbria.   Andrew has an extensive sailing experience in a variety of craft including a single handing a Farrier trimaran and a Mini Transat yacht offshore – he is not new to pushing the boundaries of what is possible with sailing boats.  He is also planing another project which to me is at least as interesting as the smallest boat project, this is the design and build of a dinghy size sail and oar boat specifically for exploring Artic waters.  Perhaps he will also tell us something about that.
