RYA Suuzuki Dinghy Show

Post by Fredthecharlie »

Brief report on the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show 2017
As usual there was a lot of interesting thing to see; the main theme appeared to be “Foiling” the display in the foyer consisting of Wild Bear (see Catalyst 51), an In international Moth and an example of Waszp. AYRS had a stand shared with BTAC and as usual Sheila Fishwick worked her charm and signed up new members. There were the usual lectures on racing rules, sail trim, fitness and promoting the National Sailing team; I went to one on foiling Moth style which had a lot of interesting information and this was followed by a presentation on a design of foiling craft F101 more suitable for the less athletic (still 10K+!) and mentioning a sailing school in warmer waters. I wasn’t able to get a photo of the F101 http://www.foiling101.com as the stand it was on was too crowded, but I was able to photograph Flying Mantis also intended as an easy to sail and fly boat http://www.flyingmantis.uk see below
Other boats of interest included Flying Fifteens and a very smart Flying Ten both designed by Uffa Fox.
Some new beach cats with and without lifting foils. Lots of clothing and fittings to buy, I was tempted and bought a “DryRobe” http://www.dryrobe.com a super warm dressing gown garment, just right for a retaining heat between wet exercise sessions and enabling a change into dry clothes without embarrassing onlookers.
