I am writing from the West Coast of British Columbia, where I look forward to once again sailing on our Salish Sea and visiting the hundreds (thousands?) of anchorages and harbours.
I am currently converting a Haida 26 to a Vincent Reddish style junk rig. As a singlehander, I am also interested in having self steering. I initially saw the Jock Burrough's design in Letcher's 'Self Steering' and recently I downloaded the original AYRS 'Self Steering' where I found 3 models of Jock's design. This design would suit my boat and I am particularly fond of being able to do the course-setting from the cockpit.
I am not a fan of reinventing the wheel, and am hoping that someone in the AYRS might have built one or knows of someone who has or has ideas on how to build one. I am interested in details like bearings used and the drum sizes and drum ratios, etc.
Thanks in advance,
Stephen
